Explore our collection of stencil-dyed papers carefully selected from an archive of designs in Kyoto, Japan, where we work with a family-run studio who produce these extraordinary bold & graphic papers. Also known as Katazome-shi, these papers were developed during 20th century, based on traditional kimono printing techniques.  Each colour is applied individually by hand, one at a time, using persimmon-dyed kozo stencils, aided by paste and “Kojiro” (soy bean juice), the pigments absorb deeply into the paper to produce long-lasting colour. The strength and ageless beauty of these papers make them suitable for many applications including, bookbinding, origami, box-making, as well as interior projects such as wall covering and furniture lining.

Available in 3 sizes; a full sheet (L) 960 x 650mm, a half sheet (M) 480 x 650mm & a quarter sheet (S) 480 x 325mm. Each sheet supplied will have white deckle-edge borders on some or all edges. We supply the paper rolled.

    Web of Flowers – This stencil-dyed design features a fresh green patterned web interspersed with orange and blue flowers. Each of our designs are selected from an archive of designs in Kyoto Japan, where we work with family-run print studios to produce these papers.

  • PRODUCT CARE

    Whilst our stencil-dyed papers are incredibly durable, they are delicate and need to be handled with care. We do not laminate or coat the papers, as this would detract from their beautiful hand-printed tactile quality. We recommend storing your products away from direct sunlight – as this can bleach the colours, and avoid direct contact with heat, water & oil, and any situation that is either too dry or humid. These products are made with materials that will react to their environment. Each product is handmade and therefore may be subject to variations in size, colour and alignment of pattern.

All Fabric lampshades are currently made to order in our studio in the South of England, and despatched within 6-8 weeks. If you have a bespoke enquiry please do not hesitate to contact us, using the contact form.

 

*Our Sougara albums are handmade in our bindery in the South of England. Our lead times may vary, however we aim to despatch albums on pre order within 2-3 weeks.

Is this a gift?

Select this option if you are sending directly to a loved one. We will carefully package the item/s in bronze tissue, and one of the Esmie team will handwrite your message in one of our notecards. (Enter in gift message box) Rest assured we will also remove any prices from the delivery note. This is a complimentary service! *Orders of multiple products will be collectively wrapped in tissue.
